You Sold the Work. Now You Need the People.

Hiring takes three months. Your client starts in four weeks. Here's the actual math on why deploying vetted contractors beats hiring when the clock is already running — and what it costs to get it wrong.

You closed the deal. The SOW is signed, the client is expecting a kickoff date, and somewhere in the proposal you promised a team that, as of today, doesn't exist yet.

This is the point where a lot of IT consultancies and system integrators quietly panic — not because the work is hard, but because the hiring math doesn't fit the timeline they already committed to.

The Hiring Math Doesn't Work

Run the numbers honestly, and a standard hiring process looks like this:

  • Job ad live: 1 week
  • Screening: 2 weeks
  • Interviews: 2 weeks
  • Offer & negotiation: 1 week
  • Onboarding: 2 weeks

That's eight weeks to a first day — and that's the optimistic case. It doesn't include the candidate's notice period, where it applies, which adds another four to eight weeks you can't design around.

Your project started yesterday. Your client is expecting work to begin in four weeks. The math simply doesn't close.

What an Empty Seat Actually Costs

Every week a role sits unfilled, you're paying for it — just not on an invoice you can see directly. An unfilled seat against scope you've already promised typically costs RM8,000–12,000 a month in delayed billing, idle project margin, and the opportunity cost of a team that can't start.

Multiply that by however many open roles the engagement needs. Then add the client asking, politely at first, when work actually starts.

The Alternative: Deploy, Don't Hire

The fix isn't to hire faster. It's to stop hiring for engagements that were never meant to be permanent headcount in the first place.

Vetted contractors, briefed against your actual scope, deployed onsite in Malaysia or remote into your Sydney, Singapore, or global team, close the same gap in a fraction of the time:

  • Named resources in days, deployed in weeks — subject to the contractor's notice period, which is typically far shorter and more predictable than a full external hire's.
  • Ready to work, not in training mode — these are people who've done the role before, not someone ramping up on your stack for the first month.
  • You hit the deadline and keep the margin — instead of eating the cost of the gap while you wait for a permanent hire to clear notice.

Compliance Isn't Free — So Someone Has to Carry It

Every one of these obligations exists whether you hire directly or deploy through a partner: EPF, SOCSO, PCB and tax, payroll, work permits, employer-of-record status, and locally compliant contracts.

The question isn't whether the compliance exists. It's who's carrying it. When PowTech deploys the team, we're the employer of record — the obligations stay with us, not with your project budget or your internal HR function scrambling to handle a jurisdiction you don't normally hire in.

The Real Cost of Getting It Wrong

A rushed, unvetted hire doesn't just risk the role — it risks the delivery. A wrong hire, factoring in delays, rework, and the cost of replacing them mid-project, typically runs RM60,000–120,000. That's not the salary line. That's everything downstream of it: the client conversation about the missed milestone, the rework once the replacement starts from scratch, and the reputational cost of a delivery that visibly slipped.

Vetted resources lower that risk before it becomes a problem. Deployment puts an accountable name against the seat from day one, not week nine.

The Trade

Here's the actual division of labour: your job is to ship the work you sold. Ours is everything that makes that possible without you carrying it — vetting, compliance, integration into your workflow, and accountability for the person we put in the seat.

That's the trade. It's also, side by side, the whole argument:

  • Hiring: three months' wait, higher risk, HR overhead, compliance handled in-house
  • Deploying: two to four weeks, vetted, hands-off, fully handled

Same seat, filled weeks earlier — with someone else carrying the compliance risk instead of you.

If Your Project Doesn't Have Time for Hiring

This is exactly the gap PowTech exists to close: dedicated tech teams deployed out of Malaysia, for MNCs and system integrators here, and remote into Australian and other global teams.

If you've sold the work and the clock is already running, send us the scope — we'll come back with a deployment plan, not a hiring timeline. Or get in touch directly if you want to talk through the specific roles first.
