Role Summary
As the Head of Engineering, you will spearhead the design and delivery of secure, scalable, and RMiT-compliant payment solutions. This role requires a balance of technical expertise and leadership to drive innovation, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver high-performance digital transaction systems. You will oversee both backend and frontend development, third-party integrations, and ensure robust operations across all payment services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical strategy, architecture design, and the engineering roadmap for payment gateway solutions.
- Oversee the design, development, integration, and deployment of secure and scalable fintech applications (online & offline).
- Ensure compliance with RMiT, PCI-DSS, and other payment industry frameworks.
- Integrate third-party APIs and systems (banks, payment processors, mobile wallets, QR payments, POS systems).
- Drive incident and problem management, ensuring system reliability and smooth release/patch deployments.
- Build and manage front-end user portals and backend systems (Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, React Native).
- Lead the development, testing, and maintenance of application and database code.
- Guide architectural design reviews for payment services and digital transaction systems.
- Provide technical documentation and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
- Ensure secure transaction logging, reconciliation, and reporting features.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance, Infrastructure, and Support teams to align technology with business objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum 8+ years of software development experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in Fintech, Payment Gateway, or Financial Services projects.
- Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL, and frontend frameworks (AngularJS, React Native).
- Strong understanding of payment processing systems (card-present & card-not-present environments, e-wallet/QR code integration).
- Familiarity with RMiT regulatory requirements and Bank Negara Malaysia compliance frameworks.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is an advantage.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver under tight deadlines.
